Stand Up to Cancer Raises MILLIONS on LIVE TV

Imagine the impact while watching over 50 of the most celebrated film, music, sports, and TV personalities take a stand against cancer LIVE on national television. In an unprecedented television event, NBC, ABC, and CBS simultaneously devoted 1 hour of commercial-free prime time to raise funds for the fight against cancer on Sept 5th 2008.

STAND UP TO CANCER was an incredible experience for Komen for the Cure Los Angeles Board members Jennifer Fenton, Patricia Buske, and Marla Dennis as they joined Susan Carter Johns, Executive Advisor to founder Nancy Brinker, for a full day of complete immersion in the non-profit world.

The extraordinary TV event was helmed by one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood, Laura Ziskin, a breast cancer patient. As an L.A. Times story reads, "As a movie producer, Laura Ziskin has wrestled with studio executives, stars and lawyers. As a late-stage breast cancer patient, the "Spider-Man" maker has faced a far more perilous foe, and now Ziskin intends to do to malignant cells what she has done to box-office records: smash them. Ziskin, who also has produced two Academy Award broadcasts, is the driving creative force behind "Stand Up to Cancer," a star-filled one-hour benefit that will be broadcast commercial-free on ABC, CBS and NBC Friday at 8."

Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, James Taylor, Scarlett Johansson, Meryl Streep, David Cook, Christina Applegate, Lance Armstrong, Jack Black, Kirsten Dunst, Charles Barkley, Josh Brolin, Jennifer Garner, Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Charles Gibson (Good Morning America), Josh Grobin, Halle Berry, and Jessica Alba were among the 50 star power personalities to take a stand against cancer. The generous donations will go directly to grants spearheaded by collaborative "Dream Teams" made up of the most revered and respected scientists, clinicians, technicians throughout the world. The goal is to fund a new generation of cutting-edge cancer research that will bring rapid advances in the treatment of patients and the prevention of cancer in those individuals who are at risk. Taped at Hollywood's prestigious KODAK THEATRE, STAND UP TO CANCER TV event raised multiple millions in one evening for numerous cancer related organizations.
